I’ve got a traditional-meets-modern Derbyshire wedding with chilled vibes and copious amounts of fun today! This was my kind of wedding, and Emilie and Mark were my kind of people. With a church ceremony and a blank canvas marquee wedding reception, their eclectic choice of venues was the perfect mix. Their day was simple, rustic and mostly about having a blast with the people they loved. From the first morning brew, it was clear that this wedding was going to be a personal and personalised family affair from start to finish.
After morning prep with their loved ones, Emilie and Mark chose to officially tie the knot in a beautiful traditional church ceremony. Emilie wore a stunning, simple high-neck dress in traditional ivory satin, and her bridesmaids matched perfectly in muted, eclectic-coloured satin gowns. The groom and groomsmen were smartly traditional in three-piece navy suits. The looks complemented the church venue and were versatile enough for the marquee afterwards too! In true British fashion, it rained on the ceremony entrance, but nothing could dampen this wedding party’s spirit! The rain stopped just in time to catch an epic confetti shot of the newlyweds before heading off to the untraditional part of their special day! With a blank canvas approach to their reception, they had a field and a marquee; the rest was up to them!
For me, the DIY marquee wedding reception was what made it special. With simple DIY decor, lots of props, games and even a bouncy castle to keep the children (and some of the adults) entertained. These were some of my favourite shots, and they captured the essence of the day perfectly. From the DIY signs, the picture bar, the afternoon tea scone station, the photography props, the personalised drinks menu, the outdoor games… need I continue?
It was most definitely my kind of wedding and one I won’t forget for a while… Not only was this wedding day a blast to photograph, but it was also a proud moment in my wedding photography career, winning me multiple awards for documentary wedding photography. One of those was a This is Reportage Story Award, which credits the top 100 photographers in the world! This is the most sought-after documentary photography award in the industry, and they are incredibly hard to win. So, this wedding has an extra special place in my photographer’s heart.
