What to expect from your family photoshoot in Nottingham
As a Nottingham family photographer, my goal is to document your family exactly as you are right now. Children don’t need to perform or behave in a certain way — they’re free to be themselves. That’s when the best photos happen.
Rather than standing still and smiling at the camera, I encourage families to move, explore, and spend time together. This approach creates photographs that feel honest, emotional, and full of life.
Relaxed Family Photography In Nottingham
To keep things relaxed, I usually suggest that your family goes for a walk together at a location of your choice. This could be a park, woodland, or open green space in or around Nottingham. Your children might climb trees, hide in bushes, collect sticks, or run ahead — and that’s absolutely perfect.
I’ll gently guide things when needed, but for the most part, I’ll be quietly observing and photographing the moments as they naturally unfold. The experience is about enjoying time together, not worrying about the camera.
Starting with a few “safe shots”
At the start of every family photoshoot, I take a few relaxed group photos of everyone together. These aren’t stiff or overly posed — just simple, natural images while children are still happy, settled, and full of energy.
As a parent of four, I know how quickly moods can change once little ones get tired or hungry. Starting this way means you’ll always have some beautiful photos of your whole family together before the session naturally turns into playtime.
After that, it’s all about play
Once the group photos are done, the rest of the session is led by your family. This is when the most meaningful moments usually happen — laughter, cuddles, curiosity, and connection. These are the images that families treasure most.

Family photoshoots typically last 45–60 minutes and take place at your chosen location. As a Nottingham family photographer, I regularly work at locations such as Wollaton Hall, but I’m always happy to recommend spots based on the look and feel you’d like for your photos.
