DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Wedding photography workshop for photographers who want to improve their documentary skills and up their game

If you are a photographer that understands that shooting weddings it’s not just a job but a craft, my wedding photography workshop is for you!

You know that outside of the ‘set pieces’ of a wedding day, there’s no script. You have no control.

How then do you create art on the fly in ever-changing situations that your couples will love?

My workshop will help you to produce unique photos even when the pressure is on.

Weddings are about far more than taking pretty pictures all day.

If you think in that way too, I want to help you to improve your documentary skills so that you can stay creative for the entire wedding and not just for ‘couple time’, so that you can capture unique moments that show your personality. This will help you to establish your style and set you apart in a crowded marketplace.

My workshop will walk you through my approach to documentary wedding photography both in terms of shooting and as a business.

I’ll provide insight into my photojournalistic style, how to get into the documentary mindset and how I go about staying creative during all aspects of a wedding.

You won’t hear me harping on about gear choices (cameras and lenses etc), because who really cares? They are just tools.

The aim of my workshop is to give you real practical tips that you can implement straight away when you get home or as soon as your next wedding.

I’ll also go behind the scenes of my business as a Nottingham Wedding Photographer and provide my take on everything from SEO, and marketing to social media and much more.

You will leave my workshop feeling inspired and ready to smash your next wedding and the next season with loads of ideas to take your business forward.

Workshop Q&A

Does the workshop include a photo shoot with a bride and groom?

My workshop is not a portfolio-building workshop, so there won’t be a shoot with a bride and groom.

My documentary wedding photography workshop for you if you want to:

  • Start seeing and capturing quirky moments that will stand your work out from the crowd
  • Be more creative across all areas of a wedding day
  • Have more fun shooting weddings
  • Be inspired and ready to smash next season

I’ll be sharing my approach to capturing a wedding day from start to finish, showing you how you can shoot an entire wedding without staging or posing a thing. I’m known as one of the best documentary wedding photographers in the UK by This is Reportage.

I’ll also be giving attendees the opportunity to have work critiqued by me and share some of the behind-the-scenes of how I run my business.

I haven’t shot a wedding before, will this workshop help me?

Absolutely!

It’s great that you want to explore the wedding photography scene. It started as a hobby for me, just taking photos of my family. I know the feeling of not being into the day job!

I haven’t always been good at what I do, but I’ve learnt loads from other people and I’ve had the opportunity to put it into practice. This is part of my motivation for running the workshop; I believe that, with the right mindset, anyone can elevate their photography.

My workshop focuses primarily on documentary photography (no pun intended). It’s not a style of photography in my opinion but an approach to shooting a scene, so the general principles will apply not just to weddings but to any setting where you need to compose on the fly.

I don’t spend much time chatting about gear or settings, so from that POV it’s not a very technical workshop.

If you haven’t shot a wedding before, my workshop would be an excellent starting point for you because you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how I approach an entire wedding day. This will make you feel a lot more confident with second shooting or shooting your first wedding solo.

I don’t have any wedding photos to show, will I still benefit from the photo critique?

The photo critique is a unique part of my workshop and it will help you to take better photos across the board (I’ve benefited massively from having my photos unpacked by others). It’s the perfect way to start putting into practice some of the learning from my workshop by helping you deconstruct any photo (not just weddings) and evaluate how small adjustments would have improved your composition and observations. So that when it comes to shooting a wedding, or even your next photo, you can carry forward the ideas put forward in my workshop.
