It’s a real honour to place in the Top 10 of one of my favourite documentary wedding photography competitions.
Over the past 12 months, I was lucky enough to receive 9 awards, placing me in the Top 5 documentary wedding photographers worldwide — and making this my third year in a row as a Top 10 photographer.
Why Documentary Wedding Photography Matters
Photographers Keeping It Real is one of my favourite competitions because it celebrates what documentary wedding photography is all about: real moments, not staged ones.
The images that win are rarely the obvious shots. They’re the in-between moments — the laughter, reactions, chaos and quiet connections that happen when couples aren’t looking. These moments often go unnoticed on the day, but they become some of the most meaningful photographs later on.
That approach sits at the heart of my work as a documentary wedding photographer.
My Approach as a Documentary Wedding Photographer
I believe wedding photography is about far more than the bride and groom all day.
Weddings are full of stories happening everywhere at once — between guests, family members, friends and fleeting interactions. That’s why I take a completely hands-off, documentary approach.
I don’t pose people.
I don’t stage moments.
I don’t turn weddings into photoshoots.
Instead, I quietly observe and photograph what naturally unfolds, capturing weddings from a wide, honest perspective that reflects how the day actually felt.
