My Wedding Photography Equipment
Lots of you may be wondering what wedding photography gear I’ll bring to your wedding?
I wanted to share a little bit about what gear I shoot with because it underpins my approach to capturing weddings. I hope this post gives you a little insight into the way I work. It will also answer one of my FAQs in relation to back-up equipment.
Cameras I use at weddings
It’s so important to stay fresh creatively and have as much fun as possible when shooting. That’s why I recently moved from using Nikon DSLRs to Sony mirrorless.
At the time of switching, Sony offered so many features that I knew would improve my photography by allowing me to get compositions I could previously.
Sony a9 – Main Wedding Photography Camera
My main camera is SILENT – you wont hear any ‘clicks’ during your wedding ceremony! This means, I can shoot through moments without drawing any attention away so you won’t have to worry about any distractions at all. I can now capture moments that I wouldn’t have dared to before.
Oh, and the autofocus is incredible. How the Sony a9 locks on and tracks subjects so accurately and reliably blows me away every time, so I’m nailing way more moments than ever before.

Sony a7iii – Back-up Camera
I never shoot a wedding without a backup of every piece of equipment. You never have to worry that, in the event of equipment failure, your wedding coverage will be severely compromised.
The Sony a7iii is a pro camera and has almost everything I love about the a9. In fact, loads of wedding photographers use this as their main camera body. So, if I needed to, I could easily shoot an entire wedding with it.
Lenses for wedding photography
To maintain a consistent look across all the photos I deliver from your wedding day I shoot with a couple of prime lenses (fixed focal lengths).
Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master
This is the best 35mm lens I’ve ever shot with. It’s crazy sharp and the contrast is outstanding, even in harsh lighting conditions.
It stays glued to my camera for 90% of the day. I find 35mm is in the ‘goldilocks’ range – not too wide and not too tight and it’s suited to most situations that I find myself shooting in at weddings.
Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master
Despite the fact that it weighs as much as a small child, this lens is worth lugging around because the image quality is stunning. It pairs perfectly with the 35mm and I have rarely been in a situation where I wished I had more ‘reach’.
