Here’s my line-up of some of my favourite wedding photos from 2021. I’ve been lucky enough to have photographed so many great weddings in Nottingham and the Midlands this year that it was SO hard to create this best of wedding photography 2021 list.
I’ve only selected ‘moments’ because they’re what make each wedding truly unique. Moments are those blink and you miss, no second chance, fleeting little events that you have to be on the ball to capture.
Thanks to all my couples for making this year incredible. To top off the year, my couples have helped me reach the regional finals of the Wedding Industry Awards too!
Helen & Tom – Whatton House and Gardens
I love the explosion of colour in this photo but what’s even better is the looks on Helen and Tom’s faces. It has to be the best confetti shot of the season. Confetti is always loads of fun and I’ve some top tips on getting the best confetti shot HERE. I’m going to blog this wedding soon 🙂
Laura and Tim – Holme Pierrepont Hall
It’s not often that you see so many little things happening as the couples make their way out from the ceremony. Tim’s smiling at the bridesmaids and Laura is smiling at her Dad while her Mum is clapping. Lovely moment. You can see more of Tim and Laura’s Holme Pierrepont Hall Wedding HERE
Courtney & Dan – The Walled Garden
The reaction of Courtney’s Mum as the newlyweds are just seating themselves for the reception is pure awesomeness!
Lyndsey and James
James getting slapped in the face by his best man! I always see something different when the guys go mad together!
Ambra & Pasquale
From the speeches at one of the micro weddings of 2021. I had no clue what was being said because everything was spoken in Italian, but I could sense something mad was about to happen. This is a photo of the Bride Ambra shutting up her friend’s face mid address – classic! I got a Kickass Photography award for this one too! Sophie & Reece – Prestwold Hall
The behind the scenes for this photo was a little scary (for me anyway), so I wasn’t sure If I should have included it. Basically, I almost missed the shot!
I was photographing guests arriving for the ceremony and knew Sophie would be on her way soon, so I’d planned to get to the stairs early. However, when I arrived Sophie was a little earlier than me! I framed-up in a heartbeat and nailed this lovely shot of Sophie and the train of her dress and veil as she came down the staircase at Prestwold Hall.
The photo made the finals in the ‘best single capture’ category for the International Wedding Photographer of the Year Competition. You can see more Prestwold Hall Wedding photos HERE
Charlotte and Rhys – Stubton Hall
Sometimes the best moments happen right after the first kiss. That’s why I always keeping shooting (my camera is silent by the way). Here’s Rhys stealing another kiss. I love that Charlotte’s not expecting it (you can tell by her hands), but you can tell by her face that she’s loving it! (NB I will blog this one soon)
Mari & Tom – Kedleston Country House
Reaching for the moon, well at least that’s what it looks like to me! It’s my fave shot from Mari and Tom’s wedding at Kedleston Country House because it’s fun and shows Tom doing what he loves on the best day of his life.
Andrew & Abi – Prestwold Hall
After Andrew’s son had finished his best man’s speech, Andrew gave him a massive hug. What I love is that the man in the left of the frame is Andrew’s Dad. A photo featuring a moment and three generations is pretty special and rare, so it had to feature in the best of wedding photography 2021 list.
I broke from my usual edits on this one by making it B&W. I don’t often do this because I’m a massive fan, like my couples, of vibrant colour. But this moment just lent itself to B&W because of the contrast between Andrew and his son and the backlight from the window. I think B&W gives this photo a little more impact vs colour. I offer B&W photos as an optional extra if that’s something you’d like.
Fran & Matt
Matt was just chillin’ playing guitar before leaving for the ceremony and his best man unexpectedly made his way into the attic room. Still, Matt seemed oblivious! There was also a striking orange wall in this music room as well as a funky-looking sketch of Liam Gallagher too which made for a great backdrop for a quick photo of the two of them.
Bex and Dave – Langar Hall
Here’s Bex presenting herself to her Grandmother. I love the way that they’re holding each others arms, the moment after this was a tight hug. You can see more Langar Hall wedding photos HERE.
Kate and Dave – Langar Hall
Would you like some Mini Cheddars? Just look at how wide-eyed the child’s Mum is. This one cracks me up! A little bit of humour was always going to make it onto my best wedding photography 2021 list.
Becka & Simmo – Kedleston Country House
In my own little way, I’m amused by what’s going on – it works if you know the people in the image so I’ll explain. Simmo’s head is in the left of the frame and on the other side of the frame, we have Becka’s mother and Grandmother laughing at the same time but looking in different directions. At the back of the frame, Simmo’s dad is sucking down a drink.
I just love the juxtaposition. That’s probably a little geeky for you, but that’s how I think sometimes when I’m creating a photo!
Cherrie & Chris
We were about the do the group shots when the post man rocked up. I guess this sort of thing will happen when your house is your wedding venue.
Alex & Tony
Tony and Alex had an English garden themed party for their wedding reception at Alex’s parents house. So Morris dancers were a given! With Alex in the middle and the dancers circling around her waving their man-size kleenex’s around, it took some patience to get a shot like this due to the speed and randomness of everything going on. I love that Alex is framed by Kleenex and I think it captures the vibe of their wedding in one photo.
Lucy & Rich – Cockliffe Country House
HELLO bride! I love the expressions on the bridesmaids faces in this photo from Cockliffe Country House. They’ve completely lost it and they’re beaming like the giant sunflower bouquets that the mother of the bride made!
