Here’s a a little bit of alternative wedding inspiration for you.
You don’t have to hold your reception at a traditional venue, how about a marquee in your favourite pub in the country?
That’s exactly what Charlie and Tom did for their 1950’s inspired alternative wedding in Nottingham. Here’s what Charlie had to say about her wedding day, hopefully it will provide you with a little inspiration for your big day!
The Alternative Wedding Reception
“We wanted a simple rustic feel to our wedding. We’re both quite alternative and wanted something non-traditional, so we held our reception under a marquee in a pub where we had spent many a summer night out in their beer garden – it just felt right!
VintageDress
“I always wanted a vintage feel and this dress just screamed it at me, covered in lace and the A-line silhouette. I could see the vision of it being altered to a 1950’s style so it was perfect for this reason.
My wedding dress was from purchased from a charity shop (for only £150!). I loved the fact that I could give back to charity by buying this dress”.
DIY Inspiration
We created a lot of DIY elements for our day – We made the flower bouquets out of Gypsophila and our own wildflower seed filled wedding favours. My Mum made beautiful paper flowers that we tied onto a garden arch at marquee entrance.
Oh, and we also had quotes from the Peep Show as centre pieces – me and Tom love that show!”
Most Memorable Moments:
“My most memorable moment was on the dance floor, dancing with Tom and just taking a moment to stop and look around seeing all my friends and family having such a good time and being care free. Also an honourable mention would have to be the joint best man speech (complete with a projector with pictures) it made me cry with laughter and just made everyone know Tom a little better!
Walking down the aisle to “Can we stay like this” by Moose Blood, the acoustic version, was also special because the lyrics spoke very much about how we feel about each other.”
Words of Wisdom for Brides:
“It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg! If you are willing to make things yourself and spend the time it’s really worth it. I also found that it made it so much more personal and meant so much more when we saw our handy work displayed”.
