I love shooting at Elvaston Castle.
It is like a photographers playground it has everything all-year round. There are trees, open space, lakes, secluded areas and lots to explore.
But lets just talk about all those beautiful trees for a moment…
It has a great mixture of leaf-droppers and leaf-keepers (deciduous and evergreen trees to be posh). This provides colour and variety when shooting in the autumn/ winter months. The leaves provide a bit of fun and the greenery provides cover that can be used the frame the couple for intimate shots.
You can check out my full wintery engagement shoot here.
In summer, the trees create gorgeous little patches of dappled light as it filters through the leaves. The leaves also provide shade, which is a photographer’s best friend when the light is harsh and unflattering. I try to shoot around golden hour but sometimes its not always possible.
I also enjoy the tucked away little garden area that makes an ideal spot for a cheeky piggyback! (you can check out more image from this shoot here).
Lastly there are the castle and hedgerows, but I don’t find that they make for fun photographs. I like to focus on people, rather than people in places. I always want couples to take center stage and not buildings.
